Lorna Dueck (CEO of YES TV® and Host of Context Beyond the Headlines) is back from Sri Lanka where she and a film crew reported on a series of co-ordinated suicide bombings claimed by ISIS, on April 21, 2019. Sri Lanka – Faith Under Fire is a two-hour special premiering Saturday August 24, 2019 at 8 p.m. on YES TV®. The team brings back stories of heart break and miracles in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks of eight bombs ripped through churches, luxury hotels and housing complexes.
As the leader of Canada’s religious broadcaster YES TV®, Lorna was deeply convicted that YES TV® needed to tell this virtually forgotten story from Sri Lanka, where religious harmony is no where in sight – and tension remain high, “We need to be part of the recovery process, and study how those victimized work to be good people who care for the vulnerable and repair the wounded.”
In part one of the upcoming two-part special, SRI LANKA - FAITH UNDER FIRE Lorna and her team bring back stories from families and communities torn apart, and interviews from the churches including Senior Pastor Roshan Mahesen of Zion Pentecostal Church in Batticaloa and Fr. Jude Fernando of St. Anthony's Shrine in Colombo –all who talk about the difficult job of recovery.
In part two, Nobel Peace Prize nominee Callum Macrae discusses Sri Lanka’s entrenched history of religious and military conflict;Miriam Young of the U.S. Counsel on Sri Lanka describes how the U.S. and Indiawarned the Sri Lankan government about the suicide bombers, but those warnings went ignored.
